Stigma & Mental Health: How to Create "Safe Space" in Our Homes, Workplace, Community

Schedule: October 07, ‘22 | 10am-12nn

The pandemic clearly ushered in an era of greater awareness of Mental Health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a 25% global increase in reported cases of anxiety and depression across all demographics. The WHO continues to lead the call for increased consciousness of Mental Health while boosting physical immunity to Covid-19 and other diseases.

While the loud call to action for initiatives and services to address this global crisis is being heard, the issue of "stigma" or "the negative opinion toward someone because of their mental disorder"  remains. With mental health issues permeating our very lives - at home, in school, in workplaces, and communities - statistics show that as much as 60% of people experiencing mental health challenges do not seek help nor are given the right kind of care on account of this stigmatization. A recent survey shows that 98% of people agree that mentally ill persons experience stigma and discrimination.

To further advocate for this issue in October as World Mental Health Month, we invite you to bring your experience, current perspectives, and underlying beliefs that might help shed light on such stigma, discrimination, and misunderstanding. By asking the Adaptive Questions of "What-So What-Now what" let us together find ways that will help create a "safe space" for you and I to feel "it's ok not to be ok" and seek the right kind of help as needed.

Join us on October 07, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon as we have a conversation with Dr. Rodney Boncajes, a Psychiatrist and a Public Health Servant from the National Center for Mental Health. Let us know and understand the ramifications of these prevailing attitudes and prejudices that start with us, as we relate to and live with the realities of mental health challenges and reduce, if not eradicate, stigma and its far-reaching and devastating effects in all sectors of society.

This event will be moderated by TLC’s Founder, Managing Director and W.E.L.L. Coach, Susan Grace Rivera.

The Science of Malnutrition: Understanding 21st Century Obesity

Schedule: September 02, ‘22 | 10am-12nn

Even before the pandemic shifted our lifestyles, people have already been searching for and applying the best practices to stay physically healthy and reach what we call #fitnessgoals. Nevertheless, issues surrounding malnutrition continue to abound.

With the current COVID-19 pandemic further increasing risk factors for humans through increased stress and decreased physical activity due to environmental and social changes and restrictions, the problem of obesity continues to grow. In fact, in 2020, over 600 million people were already considered obese.

With various studies showing that obesity can drastically impact one’s physical and mental health, it is thus important to inquire: What are the facts and misconceptions about obesity? What biological and environmental pressures make it easy to gain weight and hard to lose it? So what do these mean for each individual whose make up, constitution, and context – whether physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial, or environmental – are different? And now what can be done to start, stop, or continue and sustain the “right” nutrition plan?

Join us on September 2, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we tackle the Whats, So Whats, and Now Whats of the disease of obesity among Filipinos with our panelists of health experts, Oca Suarez, a trained Health and Fitness Coach specializing in Proper Nutrition for Healthy Productive Living and Longevity, Marjorie Lopingco, MSc Wellness. This event will be moderated by TLC’s Human Capital and OD Consultant, Liz Clarete.

Students, Parents and Teachers in the Digital Era: Post-Pandemic Lessons on How Learning is Changing in Radical Ways

Schedule: August 05, ‘22 | 10am-12nn

The current COVID-19 pandemic has radically transformed ways of working, living, and relating to each other on a global and national level. In the field of education, the global crisis has been an extraordinary time for learning. Educational systems, policymakers, teachers, students, and parents are exemplifying adaptability and resilience in transforming learning platforms and practices given these complex times.

In unpacking the real, relevant, and timely education landscape at present, it is pertinent to reassess the “New Normal” learning models and their subsequent implications. Is remote learning here to stay? As in the evolving workplace, are schools now approaching learning through a hybrid modality? Do students really learn best in a 3-dimensional world with teachers, classmates, and activities, or is all-virtual the way to go?

Join us on August 5, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we have a deeper discussion with our powerhouse of panelists in exploring the Whats, So Whats, and Now Whats of how the pandemic has forced parents, teachers, students, and all stakeholders in the education ecosystem to rethink and reimagine education. We shall be listening and learning from Trish Castro, Principal of DLSU Integrated School (DLSU-IS), James Lactao, VP for Student Affairs & Guidance Counselor of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), Elaissa Marina Mendoza, Independent Research Consultant, Danmaire Consing, Head of Admissions of Maria Montessori Children's School, Aaron Ustaris, 4th Year Management Student from UA&P, and Joy Licud, mother of home-schooled children from different levels.

This event will be moderated by TLC’s Founder, Managing Director, and W.E.L.L. Coach, Susan Grace Rivera.

Sustainable Lifestyles: How Climate Change and Global Warming are Changing the Way We Live

Schedule: July 01, ‘22 | 10am-12nn

Since the world transitioned to the Industrial Revolution era, humans have been emitting roughly 2.5 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and increasing the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the air by more than 67%. We have reached the point by which our average global temperature has risen by around 1.1 degrees Celsius from that time. Scientists are anticipating that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, escalating by as high as 2.3 degrees Celsius by 2050 as compared to the average temperature pre-industrialization.

The evidence is, therefore, in our midst. Global warming and climate change are affecting every inhabited region across the globe, with their environmental effects radically changing our lived and built environments.

As we see the impact of global warming and climate change around us, we must then ask ourselves: Now what can we do to understand, adapt and live with these complexities in our midst and reverse the damage we have wrought unto ourselves? How can we radically change our lifestyles to effect "climate justice" for all?

Join us on July 1, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we gather more insights and discussion on the role of global warming and climate change in our lives with Virgilio "Perry" Rivera, Board Advisor & Former President and CEO of Manila Water Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. & Philippine Ventures, Inc. He also authored “Tap Secrets: The Manila Water Story”, a publication of Manila Water showcasing their transformation into a world-class service provider.

This event will be moderated by TLC’s Founder, Managing Director, and W.E.L.L. Coach, Susan Grace Rivera.

In high-profile publications and surveys globally, regionally and locally, CEOs, Senior Leadership Teams, and Chief HR Officers widely share the same concerns and worries about people. Whether it is fully WFH or Hybrid as modes of working, what is the emerging response to clamor for greater focus on health, wellbeing and work-life harmony? How is technology and digitization showing its face in HR? In the midst of all these, how are talent strategies radically pivoting to address challenges in Talent Acquisition and, subsequently, engagement and retention? We seek to know and understand how these drivers and strategies are re-shaping the demographic profiles of our workforce, the competencies that are sought for by recruiting teams, and the very world of work.

Join us on June 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we have a powerhouse panel of discussants in a thought-provoking conversation with HR Vice President of Aboitiz InfraCapital - Kristina “Cindy” Rivera, Country TA Lead of Infosys BPM Philippines - Ems Chua, and VP for Business Services and Principal Consultant of KSearch Asia Consulting - Karmeli Kintanar.

SPIRITUAL BUT NOT RELIGIOUS: UNDERSTANDING THIS PHENOMENON

Schedule: April 01, ‘22 | 10am-12nn

In the workplace of our world today, the number one driver of engagement is meaningful work. This search for meaning has become more palpably felt as we all face the stark and painful realities brought about by the global crises that threaten our very existence as humankind- the pandemic, climate crises, war, and extreme poverty.

The youth of today are faced with stark realities that lead to asking the big questions of life- Who am I? Why am I here? What is my purpose? Where am I going? We will be listening, having a conversation, and learning from Dr. Carmen “Pinky” Valdés, PhD, the former and first lay President of Assumption College, Philippines, and the forum will be moderated by Lawyer, TLC Consultant, and W.E.L.L. Coach, Atty. Eddan Macabulos.

Prayer as Relationship with God: Rediscovering the Ancient Christian Contemplative Traditions of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina

Schedule: December 03, ‘21 | 10am-12nn

“Just by the very nature of our birth, we are on the spiritual journey.” - Thomas Keating

As we prepare ourselves for the Christmas season, we look back and reflect on the disruptive impact of Covid-19 on all aspects of our lives.

Our relationship with ourselves, with others, and with our environment are also being upended by seemingly intractable forces like climate change and global warming, armed conflict, economic upheaval, and the growing inequity in wealth, education and basic human rights. External human upheavals have a way of calling us to look within   and ask - Where are we in our journey as humankind? Who are we, and why are we here, really? Where is God in all these and what kind of a relationship do we have?

Studies show that there is a revival and renewal of prayer and spirituality in the face of these almost insurmountable challenges we face.

Join us in our last TLC Community First Friday Forum for this year on December 03, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN as we have a Spirit-filled conversation with Charit Montalban, a member of the Council of Service of the Contemplative Outreach Phils (COP), as she shares her views and experience on the Christian contemplative heritage  of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina.
